Established in 1959, BMERI is a key scientific research institution in Beijing and a master's degree-granting unit in the municipal engineering sector. It operates the Beijing Key Laboratory of Early Warning for Underground Engineering Construction. Over its 66-year history, the institute has engaged in technological R&D, achievement transformation, technical consulting, and services across various fields including road engineering, bridge engineering, underground engineering, and new materials.
The institute has produced approximately 600 achievements, receiving over 100 national, provincial (municipal), and ministerial-level awards for scientific and technological progress. It holds more than 200 valid patents, has compiled over 80 technical standards, and published 16 academic works. The widespread application of its scientific research outcomes has made significant contributions to the development of municipal infrastructure in the capital.
